This episode was great, I liked the use of flashbacks to flesh out Akira and Satomi’s back story during the action.
New OP is glorious, I like the new opening song as well, pretty much tied with the first OP for me it just gets you hyped for the show
Some shameless studio self-promotion in the episode never hurts.
Got our first glimpse of Dorssia, looks like France to me. Horseback riding errday, the enemy sure is living it up.
So the reason Akira hacked into the JIOR university servers was to help her brother. Still doesn’t make it right but…I would think if the government found out about this they would have tried to recruit her or something since clearly she’s gifted. Also I can’t imagine that Satomi would have abandoned his sister when she was getting bullied given how close he seems to her now.
So they crash landed in Dorssia, not to worry cause eru erufu isn’t, all part of his master plan. Looks like we will have some traditional earth based mecha combat for awhile. I wonder if Sunrise has any experience with earth-based mecha series.
It feels like the whole show so far has just been a teaser to the conflict that is brewing up ahead. Now that the Valvrave pilots are away from the safety of Module 77 it feels like the whole diplomatic facade is being put the the sideline for now in favor of more action. I like that the Valvrave have some kind of obvious weakness like the heat shield thing instead of Gundams which were just overpoweringly strong. There are a ton of questions left after the first season about L-Elf’s past, that 200 year flashback, Haruto x Shouko (at this point she’s been out of the action so long it makes more sense for Haruto x Saki…or L-Elf) and most importantly the origin of these Valvrave. Now that they are on earth hopefully this marks the beginning of the “answers” arc so to speak because there is a whole season’s worth of build up behind Valvrave, kind of like how Geass had a long buildup as well, so hopefully they deliver. I actually don’t see this series concluding at the end of this season because they created a really interesting story/universe/characters that we are just getting to know it would be a waste just for it to reach the end so quickly. Then again if they could deliver a satisfying ending then I’m all for it, but the pacing so far feels like they should go for the R2 route.
